What change were you wanting to make when you started Carbon?
When I first started Carbon in December 2020 at 235lbs, I was at an all time low health wise. I had been diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic in March of that same year. I truly started purely as a goal to take my health back. I had no idea what that looked like weight wise but I knew I had to start somewhere. I would be lying if I said I was not doing it for vanity reasons as well but I was so overwhelmed with how badly my diabetes was, that my health came first.
What struggles did you encounter as you were working through those changes?
This may be hard to believe but I would not say I had many struggles. I set very small attainable goals throughout my journey. I truly loved every single part and I enjoyed my body throughout it. I never had an end goal of losing over 100lbs. I distinctly remember getting off insulin and hitting that 30lbs weight loss and rocking the shit out of a crop top. I will say that I struggled with how hard I was on myself sometimes. I am so disciplined that when I have a hiccup I can really let that derail my positive thinking. I call myself a recovering perfectionist. That struggle did teach me that discipline mixed with consistency will win every time.
What was different about Carbon?
When I lost the first bit of weight and was able to come off all medications for my diabetes, I knew this was a game changer. I was taking insulin 3 times a day and went to taking absolutely nothing. My doctors could not even believe it.
Tell us about the moment you realized Carbon was fundamental in solving your problem.
"When I realized I was dieting without feeling deprived or overly restrictive! I couldn’t believe I was successfully dieting on 2000+ kcals per day. Of course, activity was a large part of that, but well worth it in my opinion. Being able to have a serving of ice cream if you really want it, go out to eat with friends and be able to make things fit your macros, or enjoy things in moderation makes all the difference in the world. "
Tell us what life looks like now that you are finding success with Carbon.
Life has evolved since I first started. I used Carbon to go from 235lbs to 128lbs. I have used it to gain muscle going from that 128lbs to 140lbs (14.5% body fat). Now I go from either maintenance or reverse, depending on where I am at in my race preps. I never thought as a diabetic I would be using it to track my carb loads of 500g+ but here we are. I truly love that I have evolved since I started but I have been able to take the app each step of the way!
